What inspired you to start Cherry Blossom Ridge? In 2019, both my husband and I were wrapped up in the high paced life of automotive engineers, where everything is a fire to be put out. And while I wasn't going to admit it, I was burnt out. Shortly after the pandemic hit in early 2020, we realized that we quite enjoyed a lot of aspects of 'pandemic life'. The slower pace, being able to enjoy and watch our children grow, having time to have projects and learning to love learning again. We started figuring out a way that we could create a life in this way. By mid 2022 we had built enough of a foundation and had a plan where I was able to quit my job to care for and learn along with our children. We want to show others how to fall in love with learning again (or at least how we do it).

-
Are your recipes and recommendations based on personal experience or scientific research? Some of both. We never put out a recipe without trying it first. We also go indepth into some of the science, cultural significance, options, and 'who woulda thunk it' facts with some of our recipes. That information can be found in our Enlighten section, where we dive deeper into many areas of interest.
-
Do you have any tips for beginners who are interested in cooking or living a more sustainable lifestyle?Like a lot of things, just start. Are we perfect? No. And why would we expect you to be? Every little change you do to be more sustainable or every time you try a new recipe you get better and learn more about what you can and can't do (or what you just need to practice more of). And what does and doesn't work for you and your family. This is a learning experience, a journey, and when you know more, you do more.

How does the Discover and Enlighten sections work? The Discover section is where you find something new. A new recipe. A new practice. A new project. This is a majority of our site, because who doesn't like learning a little bit about something new? But this just scratches the surface, and that is all this section will do. The Enlighten section is where you will find indepth analyses, cultural background findings, findings to experiments done, and any other learning rabbit hole we have gone down. While this is not the majority of our site, as these posts will take weeks, months or years to research, plan, and execute, we find this information to be of interest and value, and think you might too.
-
Do you have any dietary restrictions or food preferences? In the Cherry Blossom Ridge 'household', we keep to a strictly gluten free diet as none of us, for various reasons, do well with gluten. My husband doesn't do well with corn, so a vast majority of our recipes are corn free. I don't do well with chicken, so we usually use turkey products for 'chicken recipes'. As we grow, we would love to incorporate gluten recipes into our library, and will do our best to note if we believe a gluten free recipe could be done with gluten flour. But, until we have someone who can cook and test the gluten recipes, our site content will be gluten free.
-
Can I use your recipes or photos on my own website or social media?Yes! We only ask to give credit where it is due, and let us know! We aren't competitors and I love seeing everyone win!
-
How do you come up with new recipe ideas, topics, ideas, etc.?We come up with recipe ideas from many places; Instagram, other bloggers, Food Network, Magnolia Network, local or regional resturaunts, and sometimes just walking around the store. We strive to give credit where credit is due and will always mention the original source of the recipe or the inspiration in our blog posts.
